(Persian: درباره الی – transliteration. Darbareye Elly; Country: Iran; Language: Persian)
A light thriller from the director of “A Separation”, this film is about three Iranian families who travel to North of Iran to spend the weekend at the seaside. The lead actress Sepideh invites Elly, who is her daughter’s teacher, to travel with them in order to introduce her to their recently divorced friend Ahmad who lives in Germany.
While they have fun, Elly decides to go back home but Sapideh doesn’t let her go. Elly isn’t happy but she agrees. Others have observed her rather suspicious actions with some phone calls she is receiving. When a couple of children are swept away by the rising seaside, and then safely rescued, the family notices that Elly is missing. They can’t find her despite making every effort. No one knows if she has drowned in the sea where she was least seen or left without informing anyone.
It’s a tight drama as events unfold to unveil new secrets, and you don’t know what happened to Elly till the very end. The plot was cleverly built but the ending wasn’t quite up to the mark. It could have been a very good thriller but it falls short. Rating would be 3/5. IMDb Link
